okay, not gonna have my aggressive post, YET.
i just wanna blog today...

prelims is just 3days away, but im still indulging myself in kpop (you thought i'd say that right?) animal rights' articles. i have seen many provoking images, stories, videos & articles. many of those that you wont want to read. you may ask me:"你做么要自讨苦吃?" like what my dad did last night when i gave my mummy the fishballs, which has always been my favourite. true enough, why am i doing this and make myself so "miserable"?

the fact is, thank you for your concern, but i'm not feeling miserable, at all.

a few nights ago, i just popped over in my parents' room because a lot of things were going through my mind. i told them that i want to become a vegetarian, and if im pro enough, i want to be a vegan. (FYI: Vegetarians do not consume any animals and meat byproducts; Vegans refrain from consuming/ using any animal products) my parents started their usual nagging and so on.

^not yet there, but true, animals dont need my excuses.

i know their worries. first, what will happen when there are weddings and gatherings with relatives and friends? do my parents simply tell them that:"sorry, my daughter doesnt eat meat, so she isnt coming." i dont want to stand out so much by telling relatives & other people that im paying a lot of attention to animal rights issues. dont wanna leave them an impression that im becoming a sane person while they are insane, nor am i becoming a samaritan. if not they might think that im trying to force them into my beliefs or going too "extreme".
to those who are reading this, and friends who know about my idea, im not asking you to follow me either. i just want to make myself feel guilt-free, and that im doing something for the planet's animals.

and just to warn you first, i am not labeling you as anything for eating meat. so dont label me.

all right, and then secondly, my family and i have never been a vegetarian. at most once or twice per year on our lunar birthdays or buddha's birthdays. i have zero knowledge on how to maintain a balanced diet with only vegetables. in school, they always show us the health pyramid and look, "meat and alternatives"! i will learn more on how to live without that, so that my parents can have a peace of mind with me going veggie.

i'm not just anyone (with regards to animal issues) who would just see, be sorry, and do nothing. i have seen all the articles and videos, like i have said, and i am not going to just feel sad for awhile and the next moment, shabu shabu or McDonald's. i just cant get myself to do it. the more i read/see, the more stubborn and firm i become.

and then again, thank you for your concern, but i'm not feeling miserable, at all.
Put your words to action; respect yourself, others, and our environment.
that's what i'm doing.
“Those people among us who would give lower animals human rights do not do it because they love other animals. They do it because they hate humankind.”
to be honest, true that (pointing to the quote above). i dont have feelings for ALL animals, but i must say that i do hate humankind for some reasons. i may not be living in an environment where i will see all the bad doings of human beings towards animals, but i have enough knowledge to be irritated. human intelligence is such a waste, we always use it at the wrong area. take the recent uproar of bear bile's extraction for example (you may not be following news on animal rights, but im telling you now). the chinese claim that they are now using a "humane" method to obtain the bile, but please look at my finger: _|_
you know it's not humane in any way. it's only an improvement to the methods used, but definitely not humane at all. they fucking poke a hole on the bear's abdomen and gall bladder! imagine that on you. and be honest, does the bile cure incurable disease? does the bile help to revive a person? NO! what makes you think that the bears must suffer because you need tonic. you are weak because you are weak. dont get animals to suffer.

^they are not born to suffer, just like you and me.

this post isnt meant for you to label me.
just to inform you, my friends, that im ready for a change. and dont worry, im not pushy and im not going to disgust you with anything to force you to eat less meat. :)
but there's a tiny goal in me, hoping that i can teach my friends to love animals a little bit more. just a teeny weeny bit more, and be ready to get surprised for yourself at the changes made to animals for the better in time to come.
"Saving an animal won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal"
im still an omnivore now. i do still crave for meat from time to time. just that the cravings get lesser and lesser.
i do hope that you friends can accept me for who i am.
(im not begging, im saying this proudly)

i would like to end this post with something that Doris Lin has said. it was so well said that it plays in my mind more than my favourite KPOP songs.
Many consider veganism to be an exercise in self-denial and self-sacrifice, but the opposite is true: Using animals and consuming animal products is an unjust and often violent taking. To consider veganism a sacrifice is to believe that we have a right to use and abuse animals any way we choose. Veganism cannot be a sacrifice because it's not about giving up meat, eggs and dairy; it's about not taking someone else's life and liberty.

More simply, it's not a sacrifice to give up something that wasn't ever rightfully yours.
